Abram garners HBCUAC Baseball Player of the Week

After recording key hits that helped the defending Gulf Coast Athletic Conference regular season champion Wiley University baseball team clinch its second Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) series, Smauri Abram takes home HBCUAC Baseball Player of the Week for February 17-23, the conference announced Tuesday.

Batting seventh, Abram hit .556, scored four runs and drove in six to help the Wildcats clinch the series against Stillman College. He recorded three hits in Game 2, including a two-RBI triple and scored two runs in an 18-4 rout. He recorded two hits in the finale, including a three-RBI triple that broke the game open, which led to a 15-5 win and series clincher for the Wildcats. He ranks in the top 15 of the conference with 11 RBI and 20 total bases. Abram improved his average to .478.

This is the fifth HBCUAC weekly honor won by the Wildcats. Keyon Guillory won Pitcher of the Week for January 20-February 2 and February 10-16. Ivan Del Villar and Isaac Buricaga won Player and Pitcher of the Week for February 3-9.

The Wildcats are second in the HBCUAC and will take a break from conference play with a game against Texas A&M University-Texarkana on Wednesday and a three-game series against Louisiana State University at Alexandria on Friday and Saturday at Coker Field.
