The Wildcats (13-8, 5-1 HBCUAC) took two of three games against Louisiana State University at Alexandria, which was tied for first in the Red River Athletic Conference last weekend. Armand Daigre hit .500 and came up with clutch hits that helped Wiley rally to take the final two games. Ethan Jones had a strong relief performance in Game 2, which helped the Wildcats tie the game and win in extra innings.
Rust (7-8, 3-0 HBCUAC) opened HBCUAC play with a sweep over Oakwood University last week. Malik Berrien leads the Bearcats with a .432 batting average and 14 stolen bases. He has scored 12 runs. Kyrent Cole leads with 14 RBI and is hitting .333. He shares the team lead with Berrien with 14 stolen bases and leads with 17 runs scored. Jalen Ward is 2-1 with a save. He has struck out 18 batters in 21 innings.
Last season, the Wildcats swept the regular season series at Airport Park. The teams split their meetings in the 2024 GCAC Baseball Championship. Rust took the first game 15-5 but the Wildcats avenged the loss with a 21-11 victory to advance to the championship.
