Baseball hosts Tougaloo
After playing on the road for the last month, the defending regular season conference champion Wiley University baseball team returns to Coker Field to take on Tougaloo College Saturday and Sunday in a Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference series.
Live statistics will be available for all three games. The links are listed in the baseball schedule on wileyathletics.com. Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's finale both start at noon. The 2025 seniors will be honored in between games on Saturday.
The Wildcats (25-13, 17-4 HBCUAC) are second in the conference and are a game back of Talladega College. Wiley swept Oakwood in its last HBCUAC series, outscoring the Ambassadors 23-3. Jalen Porter delivered another solid performance on the mound, allowing an unearned run on three hits and struck out 10. Keyon Guillory did not allow a run or hit and struck out eight in five innings. Ryan Ready recorded five hits, scored three runs and drove in three. Laker McPherson went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Tougaloo (9-26, 5-15 HBCUAC) is coming off victories over Philander Smith University and Rust College in make-up games. It ranks ninth in the conference. Matt Jones leads the team with a .367 batting average and ranks third in RBI with 20. Khilan Magee leads the team with 28 RBI and is hitting .304. Caleb Carter is 3-7 with an 8.64 ERA. He has 29 strikeouts in 58 1/3 innings pitched.
The Wildcats have dominated the series against the Bulldogs, winning 14 of the 16 meetings. They swept the regular series and won an elimination game in the 2024 GCAC Tournament last season.
