Baseball closes home schedule against Southern University at New Orleans
The defending regular season conference champion Wiley University baseball team completes its home schedule with a three-game Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference series against Southern University at New Orleans on Saturday and Sunday at Coker Field.

The Wildcats (28-13, 20-4 HBCUAC) are coming off a sweep over Tougaloo College, extending their winning streak to six games. Jacob Perez had an impressive series, going 7-for-11 with two home runs, nine runs batted in, and three runs scored. Jalen Porter was dominant in his start as he held the Bulldogs to an unearned run on three hits and struck out nine. The athletes earned HBCUAC Player and Pitcher of the Week.
Anthony Castaneda went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the opener. Abel Rodriguez Jr. hit 2-for-2, scored three runs and drove in one. In the second game, Armand Daigre went 2-for-3 with two runs. Ivan Del Villar went 2-for-2 with a run. Jhan Carlos Javier got a hit and two RBI. Isaac Burciaga earned his second win, striking out four in 5 2/3 innings.
In the finale, Amir Mason hit his second home run, drove in two runs and scored two. Ryan Ready recorded two hits and drove in a run. Javier went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Keyon Guillory earned his seventh win, holding Tougaloo to three runs on six hits and struck out three. Juan Pena earned the save pitching the last three innings.
Wiley trails Talladega College by a game and holds a four-game lead over Southern University at New Orleans for second. This will be the second meeting against the Knights and first in Marshall. Last season, the Wildcats took two out of three.
The Knights (20-17, 16-8 HBCUAC) is on a five-game losing streak. Their last win was on April 5 against Tougaloo. Miles Bowens leads SUNO with a .345 batting average and 36 RBI. He ranks fourth in the conference with four home runs. Kerrigan Edmonson leads the team with 38 runs. He is hitting .323 with five home runs and 34 RBI. Joey Olveda is SUNO's top pitcher, ranked seventh in the conference with a 5.57 earned run average. He is 4-3 with 27 strikeouts in 42 innings. Enrique Herazo has 24 strikeouts in 33 innings. He is 2-2 with a 5.45 ERA.
Southern University at New Orleans is fourth in the conference, trailing Stillman College by 1.5 games for third and leads Dillard University and Voorhees University by 1.5 games.
