Baseball finishes Regular Season at Dillard University
The defending regular season conference champion Wiley University baseball team will wrap the regular season with a three-game Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) series at Dillard University on Friday and Saturday.
Friday's series opener starts at 4 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader begins at noon.
The Wildcats (31-13, 23-4 HBCUAC) seek to defend their regular season title. They trail Talladega College by a game and must finish two games better than the Tornadoes. Wiley swept Southern University at New Orleans in its final home series. Ryan Ready went 5-for-8 with three runs and three runs batted in. Eddie Garza recorded four hits, hit his second home run, and scored five runs. Jacob Perez got four hits and scored four runs. Keyon Guillory delivered a masterful performance in the finale, only allowing one run on two hits and striking out 14.
The Bleu Devils (23-20, 17-10 HBCUAC) are looking to lock up the fourth seed. They lead SUNO and Voorhees University by a game. Braylon Guerin ranks second in the conference with a .438 batting average. Angel Polanco ranks fourth at .418 and fifth with eight home runs. Derrald Moore Jr. is fourth in the conference with 34 stolen bases.
On the mound, Jorge Guerra ranks fourth in strikeouts with 60. He is 4-4 with a 6.29 earned-run average. Dontre Henry leads the team with six wins. Kejuan Burnett is 4-3 with a 6.29 ERA.
This weekend will mark the ninth, tenth and eleventh meetings between the Wildcats and Bleu Devils. Wiley swept the regular season series and won an elimination game in the 2024 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Championship to even the series at four.
