Baseball dominates finale, splits with Ecclesia
After having limited offensive output in a 7-1 loss, Wiley University baseball could not be kept off the scoreboard in the finale, securing a 21-5 victory over Ecclesia College Saturday at Coker Field.
The Wildcats (2-7) have won two of their last three and also scored in double-figures during that same span. They scored in every inning for the first time since March 28, 2025.
Eleven Wildcats scored runs and six of the starting nine batters recorded hits. Amir Mason led the offensive assault with three hits and six RBI, which is tied for the most since 2007. Three of his RBI came on a bases-clearing double, which gave Wiley a 5-0 lead in the second. He hit an RBI single in the fifth and a two-RBI single in the sixth.
Batting in the eighth spot of the lineup, Ajari Camp went 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. Trey Clark started the scoring for the Wildcats with a two-RBI double to left-center field. Laker McPherson scored two runs and brought home two.
Wiley broke the game open with five runs in the fourth inning. Clark reached on a two-base error by the shortstop. He stole third and scored on error by the shortstop. Ecclesia's pitchers struggled to find the strike zone as they hit three batters and walked two. The Wildcats increased their lead to 11-0. They followed with a six-run fifth inning. Camp, Mason and Eddie Garza had RBI base hits.
Ivan Del Villar started and threw three innings. It was his first appearance on the mound since March 29, 2025. His only blemish was a walk. He struck out seven batters, including striking out the side in the third inning. The Wildcats did not allow a hit until the sixth inning. Reyli Escobedo made his collegiate debut and tossed the next three innings. He gave one run on one hit and struck out two. Travis Belin and Dallas Saunders completed the game.
In the first game, Wiley scored first in the third inning. Kaleb Gilner singled to third base. He took second on an attempted double steal, which resulted in an out at the plate. Amir Mason walked and Trey Clark followed with a two-RBI double that went to the left field wall.
Ecclesia (4-2) responded with four runs on four hits in the fourth inning. Two doubles brought home three runs. The Royals added three runs in the seventh inning. The Wildcats only recorded two hits in the last four innings. It had a scoring opportunity in the sixth when Del Villar doubled and stole third with one out. He was left there as the inning ended with a strikeout and groundout.
Ethan Jones made his third start of the season. He held the Royals scoreless in the first innings. He gave four runs on four hits and struck out one. Pena pitched two innings and struck out three.
The Wildcats will wrap their opening homestand on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Texas College. First pitch is at noon.
