Barajas wins HBCUAC Newcomer of the Week for Third Time
After increasing his lead in home runs and helping the Wildcats to a non-conference victory, John Barajas wins Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week for March 30-April 5.
Barajas recorded three hits, scored three runs and drove in two in two games this week. He hit his fifth home run of the season in Monday's game against Nelson University, which gave the Wildcats a two-run lead. He recorded two hits and scored twice in Tuesday's victory over Arkansas Baptist. For the week, Barajas slugged 1.167. He is tied for second in the conference in home runs and leads the HBCUAC with a .692 slugging percentage. This is Barajas' third weekly honor.
This is the third weekly honor for Barajas. He won Newcomer of the Week for February 9-15 and March 9-15. His award is the ninth for the Wildcats, which rank second in the HBCUAC West Division. They will visit Tougaloo College this week.
Wiley University sponsors 13 varsity sports: women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's outdoor track and field, baseball and softball. It competes in the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC).
