Baseball closes regular season against SUNO, eyes HBCUAC West Title

Wiley University baseball wraps the regular season with a Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference series against Southern University at New Orleans Sunday and Monday at Coker Field.

Sunday's doubleheader and Monday's finale are slated for noon starts. All three games will stream on the Urban Edge Network. Live statistics will also be available. The 2026 seniors will be honored in between games on Sunday.

The Wildcats (20-16, 12-6 HBCUAC) are coming off a sweep over Tougaloo College, holding the Bulldogs to seven runs. Trey Clark went 6-for-12 with three RBI and two runs. Ivan Del Villar recorded four hits and four RBI. He hit his third home run in the opener. Ethan Jones picked up his fifth win and held the Bulldogs to two runs on five hits and struck out seven in six innings. Estevan Baca won his sixth start and held Tougaloo to five hits. None of the three runs he allowed were earned.

In order to clinch the HBCUAC West Division, Wiley will need to sweep SUNO and not allow more than three runs. It split six games with Huston-TIllotson University, which means the tie will be broken on who allowed the fewest runs in conference play.

The Wildcats own a 6-4 series edge against the Knights but have lost three of the last four. In the March 28 and 29 series, they played without their entire starting outfield as Kaleb Gilner and Eddie Garza were hurt and three-time HBCUAC Newcomer of the Week John Barajas had another engagement. Wiley was limited to 10 runs in the three-game series. Last season, it swept the Knights at Coker Field.
