Four Baseball Players selected to Minority Prospects HBCU Final Showdown

Wiley University baseball players Estevan Baca, Ivan Del Villar, Kaleb Gilner and Amir Mason will represent the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) in the Minority Prospects Baseball Final HBCU Final College Showdown at 7:15 p.m. Friday at Paterson Field in Montgomery, Alabama.
 
The showdown will pit the HBCUAC against National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on a national stage in front of thousands of fans, scouts and supporters of HBCU baseball.
 
Del Villar earned First Team All-HBCUAC, marking his fourth selection. He was one of the leading hitters in the HBCUAC with a .549 slugging percentage. Del Villar was tied for third with 19 extra base hits and ranked in the top 20 with 34 runs batted in. He earned HBCUAC Player of the Week honors twice. Del Villar also pitched in three games. He went 2-1 with a 2.57 ERA and struck out 11 batters in seven innings.
 
Baca earned First Team All-HBCUAC. He finished tied for fourth with seven wins and ranked fourth with a 3.90 ERA. Baca threw three complete games and struck out 37 batters in 62.1 innings. He earned Newcomer of the Week for February 16-22.
 
Gilner earned First Team All-HBCUAC. In the leadoff spot he hit .286 with 31 runs and 18 RBI. He ranked in the top 15 of the conference with 21 stolen bases. At center field, he made 75 putouts with a .987 fielding percentage, which is among the leaders in the outfield. He made three assists and contributed to three double plays.
 
Mason, moved to shortstop this season after playing second base in his first two years. He earned All-HBCUAC First Team. Mason led the team with a .342 batting average and ranked in the top 20 with 32 RBI. He ranked eighth in the conference with 75 assists. Mason was unable to participate in this weekend's game but will be one of the leaders on the 2027 squad.
 
The weekend kicked off on Thursday with a Welcome & Educational Symposium presented by Crime Stoppers at The Nest at Alabama State University Stadium. Friday begins with a major collaboration between Minority Prospects and Montgomery Public Schools as thousands of students attend the event through a school field trip initiative. In 2025, over 8,000 students attended activities related to the event. The HBCU All-Stars will participate in a pro-style showcase from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM designed to promote prospects to professional scouts and college baseball audiences nationwide.

Evening festivities include a free youth baseball and softball clinic at 5:30 PM, the Homerun Derby at 6:30 PM, and the Minority Prospects HBCU Final College Showdown at 7:15 PM. The event is expected to create a true "Homecoming at the Ballpark" atmosphere, featuring DJs, music, entertainment, vendors, and family-friendly activities for both kids and adults. The event will stream live worldwide on YouTube via Minority Prospects TV.
