Pitts earns Preseason All-HBCUAC Second Team Selection

After averaging double-digit scoring and earning two conference Player of the Week awards, Wiley University men's basketball player Demarius Pitts earns a Preseason All-Historically Black Colleges and Universities Second Team All-Conference selection, the conference announced Wednesday.

The Preseason All-HBCUAC Teams and Team Ranking was voted on by the head men's basketball coaches. Pitts is the leading returning scorer and finished second on the team with 13.1 points per game. He scored 20 or more points in four games and was in double figures in 16. Pitts earned Newcomer of the Week for October 23-November 5 and Player of the Week for November 27-December 3. He also ranked in the top 15 of the conference with 1.4 steals per game.

The Wildcats were picked to finish seventh in the Preseason Poll and earned a first-place vote. They are coming off a 12-14 season, finishing fifth in the conference. Thirteen players return from last season's team including All-Defensive Team selection Jalen Bates, starting guard Shamir Mosley and key reserve Tre Booker. Wiley opens the 2024-25 season on October 26 against the defending Red River Athletic Conference champion Louisiana State University of Alexandria.
