AUSTIN, Texas - Wiley University men's basketball player Devon Barshow scored a career-high 27 points and Tre Booker tallied 14 points to lead the Wildcats to a 63-60 victory over Jarvis Christian University on Saturday in the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Live Xperience Classic at the Austin Convention Center.

The Wildcats (2-2) even their record and clinch the conference challenge for the HBCU Athletic Conference, which won four of the five games against the Red River Athletic Conference. Barshow hit eight of 13 shot attempts, including four of six from 3-point territory. He added three rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block. Booker recorded his second-highest point total since transferring to Wiley last season. He hit six shots, adding four rebounds, two steals and an assist. Jalen Bates led the team with eight rebounds and three steals.

Wiley jumped to a nine-point lead on two threes by Barshow and one by Demarius Pitts. It only made three of its next nine shots and turned the ball over twice. Jarvis hit eight shots and took a one-point lead. The Wildcats retook the lead on 3-pointers by Barshow and Fisher. They led 29-24 at halftime.

Barshow scored Wiley's first 10 points of the second half. Booker converted an and-one and hit a layup to give the Wildcats a nine-point lead. They missed two shots and turned the ball over twice, which allowed Jarvis to tie the game with 6:45 remaining.

The Wildcats retook the lead on a layup by Barshow but did not hit a field goal for three minutes. The Bulldogs claimed a four-point lead with 2:45 left in the game. Booker made a layup to cut the margin in half. Tayvion Fisher got a steal and laid it in to tie the game at 60 with 1:18 left. Jarvis missed their next shot and Booker got the rebound. The Wildcats passed the ball around and Barshow found Pitts open for three and he swished it to give Wiley the lead with 25 seconds remaining. Jamari Robertson's game-tying 3-pointer was off the rim.

Wiley returns home and will open HBCUAC play against Southern University at New Orleans on Thursday. The Knights are on a four-game losing streak after falling to North American University on Thursday.
