Men's Basketball faces Tough Challenge against Tougaloo College
The Wiley University men's basketball team takes on a tough opponent in the two-time defending regular season champion Tougaloo College at 3 p.m. Saturday in a Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUAC) game at Kroger Gymnasium.
The game will stream on Tougaloo College's HBCU-Plus and YouTube Channels. Fans can view online or download the apps to their streaming devices. The Wildcats (3-3, 1-1 HBCUAC) are coming off a split of their opening conference games with a 91-80 overtime victory over Southern University at New Orleans and a 74-71 loss to Dillard University.
Tayvion Fisher posted his fourth and fifth game of scoring 20 or more points and is second in the HBCUAC with 20.2 points per game. Devon Barshow averaged 21 points and seven rebounds per game last week. Jalen Bates effectively ran the Wildcats' offense the previous week with 4.5 assists per game. He contributed defensively with seven rebounds and three steals per game.
The Bulldogs (4-2, 1-0) come into the game fresh off their 66-60 conference opening victory against Philander Smith University on Thursday. Junior forward Antonio Patterson leads their team with an impressive average of 15.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. He is ably supported by senior guard Andre' Brunt and Tyler Hudson, who contribute significantly to the Bulldogs' offense. Brunt is averaging 10.8 points per game. Hudson averages 10.3 points and 3.7 assists per game.
The series is knotted at 14 but the Wildcats are yet to get a win against the Bulldogs since joining the conference in 2022. This matchup promises to be a pivotal clash in the HBCUAC standings, and both teams are looking to solidify their positions as the season progresses.
