Men's Basketball secures Commanding Win over Oakwood

TALLADEGA, Ala. - In a pivotal Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) basketball showdown, the Wiley University men's basketball team clinched a decisive 96-76 victory over Oakwood University Saturday at the Billy Hawkins Student Activity Center.

The Wildcats (7-7, 5-5 HBCUAC) conclude their second HBCUAC Crossover, winning two out of three games. Wiley scored 90 or more points in consecutive games for the first time since the 2018-19 season. It outshot Oakwood 53.4 to 40.3.

Three-point shots by Devon Barshow and Tayvion Fisher and a layup by Raymond Guillory gave Wiley a 27-14 lead with 9:14 left in the first half.. Despite a brief slowdown where the Wildcats managed just one field goal in nearly five minutes, allowing Oakwood to trim the deficit to four points, timely three-pointers by Shamir Mosley and Fisher broadened Wiley's lead to 43-31 by halftime.

Fisher and Demarius Pitts led the offensive assault with 19 and 17 points, respectively, while contributions came from all corners. Shamir Mosley added 11 points, and Raymond Guillory contributed 13 points and 5 rebounds. Taj Toney made his third start of the season and contributed 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Jalen Bates recorded 10 points, six assists and six rebounds.

The Wildcats will visit Philander Smith University on Saturday, in Little Rock, Ark. The Panthers fell 67-65 to Stillman College in double overtime to cap a 1-2 Crossover.
