Men's Basketball falls to Arkansas Baptist, Arlington Baptist

Wiley University men's basketball struggled shooting in a 61-48 loss against Arkansas Baptist College on November 10 at Alumni Gymnasium and a second-half rally fell short in a 78-76 loss at Arlington Baptist University on Friday.

The Wildcats' (1-6) losing streak reaches six games. They fall to 1-2 at home and 0-4 on the road.

NOVEMBER 10
The Wildcats generated quality looks throughout the night and held Arkansas Baptist to just 42.9 percent shooting, but Wiley's shots simply wouldn't fall. Donavan Seamster continued to emerge as a dependable scorer, finishing with 11 points and a pair of threes. Shamir Mosley added 10 points and three assists while battling heavy defensive pressure.

Cortez Collins anchored Wiley on the interior with seven points, five rebounds and an impressive five blocks, routinely turning away Arkansas Baptist drives. Shaquan Horsey provided a major lift off the bench with eight points and a team-high seven boards, keeping Wiley within striking distance late in the first half and again early in the second.

Despite the final score, Wiley outworked Arkansas Baptist on several stretches, forcing 11 turnovers and generating momentum with strong defensive stands. The Wildcats' energy and effort remained high throughout, even as the shots refused to drop.

FRIDAY
Wiley University produced its most inspired performance of the young season, erupting for 54 second-half points and nearly erasing a double-digit deficit before falling just short, 78–76, on the road Friday night at Arlington Baptist.

The Wildcats dominated the second half, shooting over 60 percent while relentlessly pressuring Arlington Baptist into mistakes. Shamir Mosley delivered a standout performance with 21 points and five steals, sparking Wiley's comeback with his two-way play.

Raymond Guillory was pivotal off the bench, stacking up 13 points and six assists while controlling the flow of the offense during Wiley's run. Cortez Collins continued to shine with 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting and multiple key defensive plays. LaRonte McHenry added seven points and five rebounds, helping Wiley win battles on the glass after halftime.

Wiley repeatedly cut the lead to one possession in the closing minutes, outplaying Arlington Baptist down the stretch. Only a handful of late free throws separated the Wildcats from what would have been a statement road win.

The performance showed the Wildcats' rapid growth, resilience, and ability to compete with anyone — signs that a breakthrough win is within reach. The Wildcats open Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference play at home against Tougaloo College on Saturday.
