Wiley University men's basketball takes the court to resume Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference play against Southern University at New Orleans at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Dillard University at 3 p.m. Saturday inside Alumni Gymnasium.
These games mark the beginning of a three-game homestand that will wrap up the 2025 portion of the Wildcats' schedule. Both games will air on the Urban Edge Network and live statistics will also be available.
The Wildcats (1-8, 0-1 HBCUAC) are looking for their first victory since October 25 and avoid opening conference with consecutive losses for the first time since 2021-22. The key will be reversing their offensive struggles, as they've only scored above 60 points in four games.
Shamir Mosley leads the team with 16.4 points per game. LaRonte McHenry put up 11 against Texas A&M University-Texarkana on November 25 and improved his average to 6.7. Cortez Collins has been a force defensively, averaging 5.6 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game, which leads the HBCU Athletic Conference.
Southern University at New Orleans (3-6, 2-0 HBCUAC) is looking to extend its winning streak after taking its first two conference games. Dorian Booker leads the Knights with 12.6 points per game. He is followed by Jaylon Hicks with 11.7 points and four assists per game.
The defending HBCUAC postseason champion Dillard (6-3, 2-0 HBCUAC) has won three of its last four games, including its first two HBCUAC games against Paul Quinn College and Huston-Tillotson University. Devin Lewis leads the Bleu Devils with 14.8 points per game. DaCarter Coleman follows with 11.1 points and 3.1 assists per game. Transfer John Kelly III is averaging 10.6 points and leads the team with 6.8 rebounds per game.
The Wildcats took both games from the Knights last season and lead the series 12-6 with the earliest recorded matchup occurring during the 1976-77 season. Wiley dropped both games against the Bleu Devils last season. The series is even at nine apiece.
