Men's Basketball subdued against Dillard
NEW ORLEANS - Wiley University men's basketball struggled to hit shots early and could not recover in a 92-71 loss against Dillard University Saturday in a Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference game at Dent Hall.
The Wildcats (1-16, 0-9 HBCUAC) are still seeking their first victory since October 25 and first road victory since February 13. They lose the regular season series to the Bleu Devils for the second consecutive season.
Wiley only hit two field goals in the first nine minutes of the game and was held scoreless for nearly six minutes. This allowed Dillard to build a 20-point lead. The Wildcats trailed by as many as 21 and went into halftime trailing 44-25.
In the second half, the Wildcats shot 17-for-34 from the field. Dillard hit 58.8 percent of its shots. The margin grew as high as 25. Wiley pulled within 13 on 3-pointers by Shamir Mosley and Laronte McHenry. The Bleu Devils didn't allow it to get closer. The Wildcats were outshot 52.2 to 45.2 percent. For the second straight game, they were dominated on the glass, 46-27.
Mosley led the Wildcats with 19 points. He hit seven shots and provided four assists and four steals. Amoni Waring followed with 15 points. He hit five shots with three from 3-point range. McHenry contributed 14 points and three assists in his second game back in the lineup after missing time due to injury. Cortez Collins led the team with eight rebounds.
The Wildcats will head to Little Rock, Arkansas, on February 7 for a non-conference game against Arkansas Baptist College. They fell 61-48 to the Buffaloes at Alumni Gymnasium on November 10.
