Bio
Joseph Flegler was introduced as head men's basketball coach on April 4, 2022.
AT WILEY UNIVERSITY

SEASON CAPSULES
2025-26: The Wildcats went 1-21 and 0-12 in HBCUAC play. After a large senior class, the team was looking for new players to step up. Shamir Mosley finished third in the HBCUAC with 17.1 points per game. Cortez Collins followed with 7.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game. He ranked in the top five of the NAIA in blocks per game.
2024-25: The Wildcats went 10-14 and 7-10 in HBCUAC play. Seventeen games were decided by 10 points or less and eight were decided by five or less. The team struggled with injuries and multipe players missed games. Demarius Pitts led the Wildcats with 14.1 points per game. Tayvion Fisher and Devon Barshow followed with 13.2 and 12.5 points per game. Jalen Bates ranked second in the conference with 2.4 steals and eighth with four assists per game.
2023-24: The Wildcats only returned four players. They went 12-14 and 8-9 in GCAC play. Three of the losses were forfeits due to disciplinary reasons. Delor Johnson led the GCAC in scoring with 21.7 points per game. He was a two-time GCAC Player of the Week and a Newcomer of the Week winner. Jalen Bates earned GCAC All-Defensive Team. He ranked second with 2.2 steals per game. Demarius Pitts was a GCAC Player and Newcomer of the Week winner. He averaged 13.1 points per game.
2022-23: The Wildcats competed in their first season in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. They finished 14-12 and 8-6 in GCAC play – marking the first time they finished the regular season with a winning record since 2018-19. Wiley College advanced to the conference semifinals for the third time in the last four seasons it competed.
PRIOR TO WILEY UNIVERSITY
In 2021-22, he was the head coach at Ecclesia College, leading it to a 15-8 record and a seventh place finish in the 2022 National Christian College Athletic Association Championship.
Before Ecclesia, Flegler spent a season as an assistant coach at South Carolina State University where he helped develop two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference selections Themus Fulks and Rahsaan Edwards. He spent six seasons at his alma-mater Savannah State University as an assistant coach. Under his guidance, the Tigers led the NCAA in 3-pointers made and ranked in the top five in scoring in consecutive seasons. It defeated power-five program Oregon State University 93-90. In 2018, the Tigers won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular season title. Flegler helped tutor six All-MEAC selections.
His coaching career began at Thomas University. He helped the program – which was defunct for 15 years – defeat four Top 25 opponents and advance to the semifinals of the Sun Conference Tournament. He developed NAIA All-American Justyn Watkins.
As a player, Flegler played at Savannah State University and helped turn the program around. It went 0-28 in the season before Flegler and won the most games in their NCAA Division I history when he graduated. Before Savannah State, Flegler played at the College of Southern Maryland, where he was selected to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-Region XX and All-Maryland JUCO teams after averaging 24.7 points per game. Flegler played three seasons professionally abroad, including being drafted by the Quebec Kebs.
