Eleven earn NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete
While dominating on the field, the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) champion Wiley University men's soccer was just as exceptional in the classroom, as 11 earned National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Daktronics Scholar-Athletes.
Christopher Haeger, Daniel Rojas, Demarian Delaney, Gabriel Oquendo, Habimana Janvier, Melvin Bonilla, Immacule Junior Donnay, Martin Rivera, Kazuma Ichioka, Stephen Gaskin and Rintaro Sakai were among 6,486 fall sport student-athletes, who maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher while competing.
This is the first time the athletes have earned the honor. Haeger earns his second academic honor this season as he was awarded HBCUAC Elite 9 Academic Award presented by Blooksy for holding the top men's soccer GPA in the conference. The Wildcats had 31 athletes maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA last year and the team posted a 3.37 GPA.
The Wildcats compete in the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship First and Second Rounds presented by Select Sport America tonight against Carroll College.
