Garrett wins 110-meter hurdles at Prairie View A&M Relays

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - Wiley University men's track and field athlete and two-time Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Track Athlete of the Week Ronald Garrett topped the competition in the 110-meter hurdles and nearly posted a national championship qualifying time in the 100-meter dash Friday at the 91st Prairie View A&M Relays.

The Wildcats competed against schools from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Garrett ran his best this season, finishing the 110-meter hurdles in 14.54 seconds, 0.04 from the 'B' qualifying standard. His time was 0.70 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Garrett completed the 100-meter dash in 10.72 seconds, 0.26 seconds from a national championship qualifying time. He also finished third in the 400-meter hurdles (58.63).

Channing Arvie delivered season bests in the high jump (1.80 meters), triple jump (13.70 meters) and long jump (6.97 meters). Dantravian Bundred Sloan matched Arvie's distance in the long jump. Jaylon Donson finished runner-up in the 800-meter run (2:03). Xavier Hutchinson threw a season-best 45.11 meters in the javelin.

The Wildcats will head to the Chick-Fil-A Bryan Phillips Open hosted by Harding University on April 4 and 5. It will be their final meet before the 2025 HBCUAC Track and Field Championship.
