Garrett wins 110-meter hurdles at Bryan Phillips Open
SEARCY, Ark. - Wiley University men's track and field athlete Ronald Garrett finished ahead of the pack in the 110-meter hurdles and recorded podium finishes in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes at the Chick-Fil-A Bryan Phillips Open hosted by Harding University at Ted Lloyd Track Sunday.
Garrett ran a time of 14.70 seconds, outperforming eight athletes, most of whom were from National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) schools. His time was 0.2 seconds from the 'B' qualifying standard. Garrett finished third in the 100-meter dash (10.85 seconds), placing behind two NCAA Division II athletes. He ran 22.02 in the 200-meter dash for a third-place finish.
Xavier Hutchinson threw a season-best 45.15 meters in the javelin. He also competed in the high jump (1.73 meters) and long jump (6.01 meters). Jaden Cole led Wiley in the 400-meter dash (51.65) and 800-meter run (2:04.66).
The Wildcats will compete for the 2025 Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference Track and Field Championship on Friday and Saturday at Lee Hedges Stadium in Shreveport. They seek their first HBCUAC Championship and eighth in program history.
