Garrett qualifies for NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championship
HOUSTON - For the second time in three seasons, Wiley University men's track and field junior Ronald Garrett Jr. is headed to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Men's Indoor Track and Field National Championship. He ran 8.12 in the 60-meter hurdles to surpass the 'B' qualifying standard at the FasTrak Athletix Collegiate Classic at the University of Houston's Yeoman Fieldhouse Saturday.
Garrett previously qualified in 2024. His time was the fastest in the preliminaries against NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA competition. He beat the second-fastest runner by 0.25 seconds. His time ranks 16th in the NAIA. He also ran 7.02 in the 60-meter dash, which was 0.22 seconds from the 'B' qualifying standard. Kemarrius Mayes and Austin Songa followed at 7.05 and 7.11.
Mayes led the Wildcats in the 200-meter dash. The 4 x 400-meter relay team of Jaylon Donson, Joseph Levier III, Garrett and Jaden Cole ran 3:24.65, which was six seconds from the 'B' qualifying standard. Channing Arvie jumped 12.34 meters in the triple jump.
The Wildcats will head to Northwest Missouri State University Friday Night Lights Last Chance Meet on February 20 to try to gain more qualifiers.
