Men's Track and Field win four events at Texas A&M-Texarkana Opener

TEXARKANA, Texas — Fresh off a trip to the national indoor stage, Ronald Garrett Jr. led a dominant Wiley University men's track and field performance Friday at the Texas A&M University-Texarkana opener.

The Wildcats faced off against host TAMU-Texarkana, Arkansas Baptist College, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) rival Philander Smith University at Pleasant Grove High School.

Garrett, coming off his appearance in the 2026 NAIA Men's Indoor Track and Field National Championship, secured a victory in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.69 seconds. The mark placed him just 0.22 seconds away from the NAIA "B" national championship qualifying standard.

The Wiley standout also proved pivotal in the relay events, contributing to two first-place finishes. Garrett teamed with Kemarrius Mayes, Austin Songa, and Darrell Sineguare to win the 4x100-meter relay. He later joined Earl Hurd Jr., Jaylon Donson, and Jaden Cole to take the 4x400-meter relay in 3:19.89, finishing four seconds shy of the "B" qualifying standard.

The Wildcats saw several other strong individual performances across the distance and sprint categories:

  • 800-meter run: Jai Harden claimed first place with a time of 2:05.95.

  • 1,500-meter run: Javoun Goldsby finished as the runner-up at 4:21.68, followed closely by teammate Earl Hurd Jr. at 4:23.16.

  • 400-meter dash: Jaden Cole earned a second-place finish, crossing the line in 50.21 seconds.

Wiley University returns to action March 20–21 at the Louisiana Classics, hosted by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
