Men's Track and Field completes Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. – Wiley University men's track and field recorded several personal bests and a top-five relay finish during the Louisiana Classics, hosted by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on Friday and Saturday.

The Wildcats' weekend was highlighted by a strong showing in the 4x400-meter relay and a standout sub-two-minute performance in the 800-meter run.

Relay Success and Hurdles

The "A" relay team of Austin Songa, Jai Harden, Joseph Levier, and Ronald Garrett Jr. earned the Wildcats' highest finish of the meet, placing fifth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:21.72. The "B" squad, featuring Javori Terrell, Armani Perry-Brown, Caleb Sowell, and Ryan Jackson Jr., also competed, finishing in 3:38.45.

In individual hurdles, senior Jai Harden secured a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 58.19 seconds.

Mid-Distance Milestones

Freshman Earl Hurd led the Wiley contingent in the 800-meter run, breaking the two-minute barrier with a time of 1:59.57. Behind him, four Wildcats notched personal bests in the event:

Goldsby also paced the team in the 1,500-meter run, clocking a 4:24.65.

Field Events and Sprints

In the field, freshman Myrian Blaze led the throwers in the javelin with a mark of 48.40 meters (158-09). In the long jump, freshman Caleb Sowell (6.41m) and senior Xavier Hutchinson (6.39m) led the way for the Wildcats.

In the 400-meter dash, juniors Jaylon Donson (50.69) and Jaden Cole (50.75) were the top finishers for Wiley, with Cole recording a personal best. Freshman Javori Terrell and Austin Songa also notched career-best times in the event.

Sophomore Armani Perry-Brown was the fastest Wildcat in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 11.21 seconds, while Songa led the team in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.18.
