Men's Track and Field win five events, place third at HBCUAC Championship

SHREVEPORT, La. - Despite competing in unpleasant weather conditions, Wiley University men's track and field finished on top of the podium in five events and had several All-Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) finishes, as it finished third at the 2026 HBCUAC Track and Field Championship Thursday and Friday at Lee Hedges Stadium.

Due to the weather conditions, the vast majority of the championship was conducted on Thursday. The Wildcats scored 111 points, which was 25 points behind the runner-up Talladega College. However, they were well behind the champion Voorhees University, which tallied 203 points to claim its second straight title.

Jaden Cole, Earl Hurd Jr., Jaylon Donson and Javoun Goldsby led the Wildcats to a three-peat of the 4 x 800-meter relay title, finishing in 8:11.65, which narrowly defeated Dillard University. Goldsby went on to defend his title in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:16.79. Wiley swept the podium as Dwight Bennett Jr. finished runner-up (17:32.63) and John Russell Jr. placed third (17:35.85).

National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national championship qualifier Ronald Garrett Jr. defended his title in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal best of 14.32. He also took the title in the 400-meter hurdles at 54.77. Garrett anchored the 4 x 400-meter relay team, which finished third at 3:25.22. Joseph Levier III, Jai Harden and Goldsby also ran.

Myrian Blaze won the javelin with a throw of 44.84 meters. Xavier Hutchinson finished third with a throw of 43.48 meters. Bennett Jr. nearly had an All-HBCUAC finish in the 1,500-meter run (4:38.05). Hurd followed at 4:39.79. He also finished fifth in the 800-meter run (2:03.8). Harden finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (58.50).

The Wildcats will try to gain more NAIA National Championship qualifiers when they compete at Harding University's Mother's Day Last Chance Meet on Sunday.
