Garrett runs for 110-meter hurdles Individual National Title
ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Wiley University men's track and field junior Ronald Garrett Jr. will look to further cement his place in program history as he competes for the 2026 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) 110-meter hurdles individual national title at the 2026 NAIA Men's Outdoor Track and Field National Championship at 1:15 p.m. Thursday at Karl Strauss Track.
Garrett Jr. makes his third national championship appearance. He finished 10th at last season's championship. He enters the preliminary ranked 13th out of 22 athletes after recording a personal best of 14.32 at the 2026 Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference Track and Field Championship. Garrett won the HBCUAC title in the event and took the 400-meter hurdles.
To qualify for Friday's final, he will need to finish in the top two of his heat or have one of the next two best times. The top eight finishers will earn NAIA All-American. Garrett is looking to be the first All-American and individual champion since 2018. He is the third Wildcat to make three national championship appearances. joining sprinters Quinn-Lee Ralph and Oraine Palmer and middle distance runner Marbeq Edgar.
The Wildcats have won 13 individual or relay national championships. They have had 36 NAIA All-Americans. Wiley won the 2018 NAIA National Championship. The final is at 2:35 p.m. on Friday.
