Goldsby's PR leads Men's Cross Country at UT-Tyler Season Opener

TYLER, Texas - Wiley University men's cross country athlete Javoun Goldsby ran a personal best as he led the Wildcats for the second straight meet at the University of Texas at Tyler's Season Opener Saturday at Texas Rose Horse Park.

Goldsby, the 2024 Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference Preseason Runner of the Year, finished the six-kilometer course that featured rolling hills in 23:38.3 - which was three minutes faster than his previous best. He averaged a 5:54 mile pace.

Jaylon Donson followed at 27:40.5 with Ameariun Harper close behind at 27:41. Jaden Cole (28:51.9) and Joseph Levier III rounded out Wiley's top five finishers. Most of the 79 athletes came from National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) schools).

"I'm pleased with how we ran," head coach Christopher McConnell said. "Most of the men ran personal bests. We'll keep preparing for the HBCUAC Conference championship."

The Wildcats will head to the Southwestern University Invitational in Georgetown, Texas, on September 14.
