Men's Cross Country starts 2025 at TCU's John MacKenzie Invitational

The Wiley University men's cross country team begins the 2025 season competing in Texas Christian University's John MacKenzie Invitational 8 a.m. Friday at AP Ranch.

The race will be five kilometers. Live results are available and the link is listed in the men's cross country schedule on wileyathletics.com.

The Wildcats are coming off their third straight runner-up finish in the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Championship. Five runners return, including the defending individual conference champion Javoun Goldsby. He ran a personal best 29:09.7 at the 2024 HBCUAC Championship and garnered six HBCUAC Runner of the Week Awards. Jaylon Donson earned All-HBCUAC for the second consecutive season and was one place shy of qualifying for nationals. Ameariun Harper earned All-HBCUAC with a 10th-place finish at the championship. Jaden Cole and Ronald Garrett also return.

Head coach Christopher McConnell enters his second season. He bolstered the roster with five freshmen and one transfer. He hopes these new additions will help his squad break through and capture its first conference title since 2014.

This is the second consecutive season Wiley has run in the John MacKenzie Invitational. It is the first of six meets leading up to the 2025 HBCUAC Championship on October 17. Following this meet, the Wildcats will compete at the University of Texas at Tyler's Season Opener on September 6.
