Men's Cross Country finishes TCU's John Mackenzie Invitational
The Wiley University men's cross country team opened the season running in the John MacKenzie Invitational hosted by Texas Christian University on Friday morning at AP Ranch.
The Wildcats ran against the host TCU, Texas A&M University, Tarleton State University and Amarillo College. The weather was cloudy and rainy. The defending Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference champion Javoun Goldsby led the team with a time of 18:09.14 in the five-kilometer race. Freshmen Earl Hurd Jr. and Dwight Bennett followed at 18:16.95 and 19:15. Transfer John Russell ran 19:38.29 in his Wiley debut.
"This was a solid opener for us," head coach Christopher McConnell said. "We ran faster than last year and are right where we want to be."
Wiley will look to improve upon their opening performance at the University of Texas at Tyler's Season Opener on September 6.
