Softball falls to No. 1 Dillard, fights to extend 2026 Season

NORTHPORT, Ala. - For the first time in 27 years, Wiley University softball took the field in a postseason game. It fell behind early in a 12-3 loss to No. 1 seed Dillard University in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Softball Championship at River Run Park and must win to extend the 2026 season.

The Lady Wildcats gave up seven runs on five hits and an error in the first inning. They allowed four runs on three hits and two errors. Wiley got on the board in the third. Jazmine Rodriguez led off with a walk and Alayna Parram reached on a fielder's choice. Ma'Kiya Miles drew a walk to load the bases. Miranda Castaneda and Sariya Calhoun brought home runs with bases loaded walks.

After allowing a leadoff single in the bottom of the third, Jazmine Rodriguez got the next batter to ground into a double play. She ended the inning with a ground ball fielder's choice. Adriauna Coleman and Rodriguez led off the fourth with walks. Parram hit an infield single to load the bases. A flyball to center field by Garrett brought home Coleman.

Rodriguez threw three innings. Four of the runs she allowed were unearned as Wiley's defense made five errors. Serenity Smith pitched the fourth, marking her first action since starting against Dillard on March 21.

The Lady Wildcats will face No. 5 seed Voorhees University in the first round of the loser's bracket at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. If they win, they will get the loser between No. 2 seed Stillman College and No. 6 seed Rust College at 2:30 p.m.
