NORTHPORT, Ala. - Wiley University softball completes its first season in over two decades at the 2026 Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference Softball Championship. It fell 12-0 against No. 7 seed Oakwood University in the semifinal of the loser's bracket.

The Lady Wildcats made their first postseason appearance since 1999. They went 2-2 in the 2026 HBCUAC Softball Championship.

Playing their third game in just over 24 hours, Wiley fell behind, giving up four runs on four hits and an error in the first inning. Jazmine Rodriguez retired the Lady Ambassadors in order in the second. Adriauna Coleman led off the third with a triple to left-center field. She was thrown out at home trying to score on a wild pitch. Oakwood increased the lead to six with two runs on four hits and an error.

Wiley only had one batter reach base the rest of the game. Oakwood secured the run-rule with six runs in the fourth. Gwendolyn Johnson got the Lady Wildcats' other hit with a two-out double in the second. Rodriguez pitched nearly the entire game, with Serenity Smith throwing to the first six batters of the fourth. Rodriguez struck out three batters. Two of the six runs she allowed were unearned.

Outfielder Alayna Parram and infielder Dajah Montgomery will graduate. The majority of the team is expected to return. Coach Jour'Dan Gardner has already brought in recruits that will strengthen the roster for a deeper postseason run in 2027.
