Nerestant, Leday win HBCUAC Weekly Honors

After leading the Wiley University women's basketball team in their two games last week, Jessica Nerestant claims Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Defender of the Week and Mary Leday garners Newcomer of the Week for their performances between November 25-December 1, the conference announced on Monday.

Nerestant recorded two double-doubles this week. Twenty of her 28 rebounds were on the defensive end. Her 17 points and season-high 17 rebounds lifted the Lady Wildcats to their first victory on Tuesday. She contributed five steals and two blocks in Tuesday's win. She put up a season-high 19 points and 11 rebounds to help the Lady Wildcats stay competitive in an overtime loss against Texas Wesleyan, which beat them by 29 earlier in the season. Nerestant ranks second in the conference with 6.6 defensive rebounds per game and ninth with 8.9 total rebounds.

Leday topped her season-high twice this week averaging 16 points per game. She scored 15 points, hitting five shots to lead the Lady Wildcats to their first victory over Dallas Christian College on Tuesday. Leday made seven shots including three 3-pointers for a season-high 17 points. This is her third and fourth double-digit scoring games of the season. She ranks in the top 15 in the conference with 1.5 3-pointers made per game.

This is the second and third weekly honor won by the Lady Wildcats. Elizabeth Camacho was named Defensive Player of the Week for October 21-27.
