Women's Basketball overwhelms Fisk

WILBERFORCE, OHIO - For the second consecutive game, Wiley University women's basketball player Tamia Dolls recorded a scoring career-high and three other Lady Wildcats finished in double-figures in a 75-49 rout over Fisk University Monday in a Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Crossover at Wilberforce University's Gaston Lewis Arena.

The Lady Wildcats (5-7, 3-3 HBCUAC) extend their season-long winning streak to four games. They pick up their first victory over the Lady Bulldogs in program history. This is Wiley's second victory over 20 points.

Dolls scored 22 points off the bench - hitting seven of 14 shots, including all four of her 3-point attempts. She contributed three steals and two assists. Jessica Nerestant followed with 12 points and five rebounds. She was limited to 19 minutes due to foul trouble and the game eventually became lopsided. Emilee Proctor contributed 11 points off the bench for her third double-digit scoring game in her last four. She also recorded three assists. Mya Jones provided 10 points and six rebounds.

Erin Love had her most productive game of the season with eight points and a team-high seven rebounds. Celebria Peacock added six points, six rebounds and four assists. Mary Leday tallied four points, six rebounds and four assists.

Wiley trailed by five after only making one field goal in the first five minutes. Dolls made three shots - including two 3-pointers to give Wiley a 12-10 lead in the first quarter. Fisk tied the game with a layup.

Nerestant, Peacock, Love and Proctor hit shots to give Wiley a 23-16 lead in the second quarter. It only made one field goal in the last four minutes, which allowed Fisk to finish the first half on a 6-2 run.

The Lady Wildcats made three of their first four shots in the third quarter to increase the lead to 10. They didn't hit a field goal for nearly five minutes. The Lady Bulldogs took advantage of the offensive struggles and tied the game at 33. Jones hit a 3-pointer to end the drought. Peacock stole the ball and scored and Proctor got a steal to set up a layup by Nerestant, which put Wiley ahead 44-39 entering the fourth quarter.

Three-pointers by Jones and Dolls in the fourth quarter opened up an 11-point lead for the Lady Wildcats. A layup by Leday with 6:45 remaining sparked a 13-point run. Love hit three shots, which extended Wiley's lead to 24.

Wiley outshot the Lady Bulldogs 42 to 26.8 percent. It shot 8-for-12 from 3-point territory. Fisk dominated the boards 56-41, however, the Lady Wildcats controlled the turnover battle 22-10. They outscored the Lady Bulldogs 30-16 in points off turnovers.

The Lady Wildcats will close their first HBCUAC Crossover against Voorhees University at noon on Tuesday at the Athletes in Action Headquarters. The Lady Tigers defeated University of the Virgin Islands for its fourth conference win on Saturday.
