Women's Basketball starts 2025 at HBCUAC Crossover
The Wiley University women's basketball team tips off 2025 with its second HBCU Athletic Conference Crossover at Talladega College and Stillman College from Friday to Monday.
The Lady Wildcats (6-7, 4-3 HBCUAC) open at Talladega College at 2 p.m. Friday. They will visit Stillman College at 2 p.m. Saturday. Wiley wraps the crossover against Oakwood University at 10 a.m. Monday at Talladega College. All three games will stream on the Wiley University Channel on the Urban Edge Network. It can be viewed online or fans can download the free application to their streaming devices.
Wiley is on a five-game winning streak but is coming off an exhibition loss to Prairie View A&M University on Sunday. Jessica Nerestant recorded four double-doubles in her last seven games. She ranks sixth in the HBCUAC with 9.2 rebounds per game and second with 6.6 defensive rebounds per game. Tamia Dolls has scored 20 or more points in two of her last three games and tallied double figures in four of her last five. She has shot 58.1 percent in her previous three games.
Talladega (3-5, 3-3 HBCUAC) is in its first season under head coach Andre Payne, who led the Wiley men's basketball team from 2006-2014. The Tornadoes have won two out of its most recent three games. DeJaria Lewis leads the team with 10.5 points per game.
Stillman (11-3, 6-0 HBCUAC) leads the conference. It is coming off a loss to Faulkner University on December 18, which ended a four-game winning streak. Jaida Minter leads the team with 12.6 points per game and is followed by Jamariah Turner at 12.1. Limaya Batimba ranks third in the conference with a 55.1 shooting percentage.
Oakwood (3-9, 1-5 HBCUAC) lost three of four games at the Dillard University and Southern University at New Orleans HBCUAC Crossover December 13-16. Freshman Saniya Keys leads the HBCUAC with 18.5 points and 11.9 rebounds per game. She has won 10 HBCUAC weekly awards.
The Lady Wildcats split their meetings with Talladega College last season, winning 41-40 at home and forfeiting the second meeting due to team discipline issues. Wiley split with Oakwood with each team winning on the road. It leads the overall series against the Ambassadors 3-1. Saturday will be the first meeting between the Lady Wildcats and the Tigers.
