Leday wins Second HBCUAC Newcomer of the Week Award
After surpassing her scoring career-high twice and leading the Wiley University women's basketball team to two victories, Mary Leday wins Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season.
She averaged 17 points per game in three contests last week. Of her 19 made field goals, 12 were from 3-point range. In Thursday's game against College of Biblical Studies, she scored 20 points leading the Lady Wildcats to a commanding 101-41 victory. Leday followed that performance with 21 points against the University of the Virgin Islands. She has scored in double figures in four of her last six games and raised her scoring average to 9.3 points per game. Leday also contributed nine assists and defensively with eight rebounds per game and nine steals.
Her previous win was for November 25-December 1. This is the fifth award won by the Lady Wildcats. Elizabeth Camacho won Defensive Player of the Week for October 21-27. Jessica Nerestant won Defensive Player of the Week for November 25-December 1 and December 9-15.
The Lady Wildcats host Philander Smith University on Thursday.
