Women's Soccer opens 2025 Season with Great Expectations

Wiley University women's soccer opens its 2025 season against North American University at 4 p.m. Monday at Pemberton Field.

Live stats will be available on the women's soccer schedule at wileyathletics.com. Fans may also be able to watch the match streamed on Urban Edge Network.

The Lady Wildcats open at home for the second straight season. They return nearly everyone from last season's team, which won two matches, picking up the program's first victories since 2018. Deyanara Hernandez led the team in scoring with seven goals. Yajaira Hernandez followed with five. In her freshman season, Destiny Allison made 57 saves in the net. Samantha Rodriguez, one of the team captains, said they are looking to build on last season's success.

"We want to win," Rodriguez said. "We also want to bring more recognition to Wiley University and put it on the map. I want to take this team as far as I can."

Andrew Benitez enters his second season as head coach, making him the program's first returning coach since 2016. He is expecting more success this year.

"Last season, we had so many new faces and had to build chemistry, which comes with time and experience," Benitez said. "This year we return stronger and more prepared. We know what to expect. They've grown and they are ready."

Benitez brought in several players to strengthen the roster, which had played with 16 players last season, five more than the required number. Three of his transfers played together at National Park College: Natalie Brice, Alondra Limon and Cynthia Lopez. Freshmen Feryi Umana Sanchez and Yamilett Umana joined the team in the spring.

In their only meeting against North American last season, the Lady Wildcats suffered a 1-0 loss. They are looking for their first season-opening victory since 2016.
