Women's Soccer takes control against North American

Wiley University women's soccer team took the lead with two first-half goals and tallied two insurance goals in the second half to defeat North American University 4-1 during its 2025 season opener on Monday at Pemberton Field.

This victory marks the Lady Wildcats' first season-opening win since 2016. Irma Garcia put Wiley on the scoreboard in the 29th minute, blasting a shot from 20 yards outside the box past North American goalkeeper Arely Sarabia. Yamilett Umana followed with her first career goal in the 41st minute, doubling the lead.

The Stallions (0-2-0) narrowed the gap with a goal in the 62nd minute, but Cynthia Lopez restored Wiley's two-goal cushion in the 67th minute by scoring off a corner kick from Nadia Hernandez. Hernandez later converted a penalty after a North American foul, extending the lead to three. Wiley outshot North American 17-9 overall and 10-6 in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Mariana Quijano earned her first career victory, making five saves on six shots.
