Women's Soccer takes all Week 5 HBCUAC Weekly Honors

After returning to the win column in dominating fashion, Wiley University women's soccer won all of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference weekly honors. Nadia Hernandez won Offensive Player of the Week. Leah Ramirez garnered Defensive Player of the Week. Feryi Sanchez took home Freshman of the Week. Alondra Limon earned Newcomer of the Week. The ladies were recognized for their performances between September 22-28.

Hernandez contributed to three goals in Friday's 9-0 victory over Arlington Baptist University. She picked up her second and third assists of the season and scored her fourth goal of the season. Hernandez ranks in the top five of the conference in goals, assists and points. 

Ramirez made her second appearance and first start at goalkeeper. She earned her second victory after holding Arlington Baptist scoreless for over 55 minutes. Ramirez stopped the only shot she faced.

Sanchez netted her third goal of the season in the 78th minute. She shared the team lead in shots with six, putting three on goal. Sanchez is tied for fifth in the conference in goals. This is her second weekly honor. She earned Freshman of the Week for September 1-7.

Limon scored her first two goals in a Wildcat uniform. They came in the first three minutes of the second half, which extended the Lady Wildcats' lead. Three of her four shots were on goal.

The honors were the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh won by the Lady Wildcats. Cynthia Lopez won Newcomer of the Week for August 25-31. Mariana Quijano was named Defensive Player of the Week for September 1-7.

The Lady Wildcats visit East Texas Baptist University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. They will open HBCU Athletic Conference play against Paul Quinn College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
