Women's Soccer opens HBCUAC play against Paul Quinn College

For the first time in seven years, Wiley University women's soccer will open conference play with a Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) match against Paul Quinn College at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pemberton Field.

The match will stream on the Urban Edge Network, which can be viewed online or downloaded to mobile devices via the app. Live statistics are also available.

The Lady Wildcats last competed in a conference from 2012 to 2018 in the Red River Athletic Conference. They competed in the Continental Athletic Conference last season, which consisted of independent institutions that were not required to compete against each other.
Wiley (5-3-0, 0-0-0 HBCUAC) is coming off a match against East Texas Baptist University, which was halted with 40:50 left in the second half due to a serious injury to an opposing player. It beat Arlington Baptist University 9-0 on September 26. Saturday's match will be the first home match since the season opener on August 24. The Lady Wildcats completed a seven-match road trip, winning four matches.

This week, Wiley garnered all four HBCUAC Weekly awards. Nadia Hernandez won Offensive Player of the Week with her one goal and two assist performance against Arlington Baptist. She moves into fourth in the conference with four goals, three assists and 11 points. Leah Ramirez took Defensive Player of the Week after winning her second match and holding Arlington Baptist scoreless for 55 minutes. Feryi Sanchez captured her second weekly honor as Freshman of the Week after netting her third goal of the season. Alondra Limon earned Newcomer of the Week after scoring her first two goals.

Mariana Quijano leads the conference with 41 saves. She ranks second with a .732 save percentage and a 2.38 goals against average.

Paul Quinn (4-4-1, 0-0-0 HBCUAC) has split its matches and haven't played since suffering a 6-0 loss against Texas A&M University-Texarkana on September 20. Cora Hurst leads the conference in scoring with 10 goals. Mia Hawkins leads with five assists. Fernanda Rosas leads the conference with a 1.73 goals against average.

The Lady Wildcats and Lady Tigers meet for the first time since October 22, 2018. Wiley won both of the previous matches.
