Women's Soccer dominates HBCUAC Week 6 Awards

For the second consecutive week, Wiley University women's soccer brings home all the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) weekly awards with Deyanara Hernandez winning Offensive Player of the Week, Mariana Quijano taking home Defensive Player of the Week and Feryi Sanchez claiming Freshman of the Week. They were honored for their performance between September 29-October 5.

Hernandez set up Alexse Orozco's game-winning goal in the 55th minute and scored her fourth goal on a penalty kick in the 76th minute of Wiley's 3-1 victory over Paul Quinn College. Hernandez is tied for second in the conference with 23 shots, tied for third with four goals and ranks fifth with 10 points.

Quijano picks up her second honor after earning her fourth victory. After allowing a goal in the 27th minute, she held Paul Quinn scoreless for the rest of the game and made one save. She leads the conference with 42 saves and ranks second with a 2.19 goals-against average and a .724 save percentage.

Sanchez tied the game with her fourth goal of the season on a free kick that went into the top right corner of the net, seconds after Paul Quinn scored the opening goal. She is tied for third in the HBCUAC with four goals. This is her third weekly honor.

The awards give the Lady Wildcats 10 for the year. They play Oakwood University at 7 p.m. Saturday at Tatum High School. They wrap their home schedule on Monday against Huston-Tillotson University.
