Women's Soccer ends 2025 Season in HBCUAC Semifinals
SHREVEPORT, La. - Wiley University women's soccer finished the 2025 season by making its third conference semifinal appearance in program history and scoring a program record of 75 goals. It fell to East No. 1 seed Talladega College 4-2 Wednesday at Lee Hedges Stadium.
The Lady Wildcats conclude with a 9-6-0 record, matching the highest win total since the program restarted in 2023 and tied for the second-highest in program history.
Talladega's athleticism proved too much for the Lady Wildcats as they fell behind in the 16th minute. Goals in the 22nd and 26th minutes increased the margin to three. Feryi Sanchez provided a little spark in the 42nd minute, scoring on a penalty shot.
Wiley played more aggressively on offense in the second half, outshooting the Tornadoes 16-7. Yajaira Hernandez had a shot hit the crossbar in the opening minute of the second half. Yamilett Umana put a shot on goal but it was stopped by goalkeeper Alyssa Johnson in the 59th minute. Cynthia Lopez headed Nadia Hernandez's corner kick, but it went wide.
Talladega put in a rebound to push the margin to three. Deyanara Hernandez scored her 12th goal of the season, to bring Wiley within two in the 80th minute. Yajaira Hernandez and Alondra Limon put shots on goal that were saved by Johnson in the final three minutes.
Wiley is expected to return nearly its entire roster in 2026. Head coach Andrew Benitez and assistant coach Laura Lopez will hit the recruiting trail to strengthen the roster for a deeper postseason run next season.
