Women's Track and Field runs against NCAA competition at Prairie View A&M Relays

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Wiley University women's track and field team tested itself against a diverse field of NCAA, NAIA, and HBCU Athletic Conference opponents Friday at the Prairie View A&M Relays.

Competing at the Prairie View A&M Track and Field Complex, the Lady Wildcats faced off against regional rivals, including Dillard University and Huston-Tillotson University, in a full day of individual and relay events.

While the Lady Wildcats battled through deep fields in the sprint and hurdle events, the team's most consistent finishes came from the field and middle-distance units.

Freshman Kelechi Dike provided a highlight on the track, finishing just outside the top eight in the 400-meter dash. Dike clocked a time of 1:00.20 to take ninth place overall, leading a trio of Wiley runners in the event.

In the relay events, Wiley's "A" team in the 4x100-meter relay narrowly missed a scoring position. The quartet of Malajia Bocage, Katilyn Charles, Kaiden Taylor, and Meeyesha Tutt-Moutouo combined for a time of 49.94 seconds to finish ninth.

The Lady Wildcats also saw a ninth-place finish in the field events. Freshman Chrisonie Darden-Sanders threw 20.23 meters (66 feet, 4 inches) in the javelin to lead the Wiley throwers.

The sprint squad saw its heaviest workload in the 100-meter and 200-meter preliminaries. Charles led the way in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.68 seconds, while also posting the team's top time in the 200-meter dash at 26.19 seconds.
