Volleyball closes out HBCUAC play at Philander Smith University

The Wiley University volleyball team will hit the road for its final Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference match at Philander Smith University at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mims Gymnasium.

The match will be streamed on Philander Smith's YouTube Channel. Neither team has anything at stake. The Lady Wildcats are eliminated from postseason play and Philander Smith secured the fourth seed for the 2024 HBCUAC Volleyball Championship.

Wiley (3-14, 3-10 HBCUAC) won one of its three matches in the HBCUAC Crossover at Talladega College on October 18 and 19. It won against Stillman College in four sets, after losing in three sets to Oakwood University and Talladega. Rachelle Santos posted 19 kills, including 12 against Stillman. Additionally, she added five block assists. Maria Luiza Chaves tallied 54 assists for an average of 6.75 per set.

Philander Smith (16-6, 8-4 HBCUAC) beat Oakwood University and Stillman College last week. Christlove Lature led the team with 28 digs. Zarea Winn put up 24 kills. Karissa Maldonado provided 65 assists for an average of 7.22 per set.

The teams met at Alumni Gymnasium on September 19 with Philander Smith pulling out a three-set victory. The Lady Wildcats were outhit .215-(-).106 - recording 20 kills and making 30 attack errors. They seek their first victory against the Lady Panthers since joining the conference in 2022. Wiley leads the series 7-5 and 3-2 in Little Rock.
