Volleyball ends 2024 season

TEXARKANA, Texas - The Wiley University volleyball team finished the 2024 season with a three-set loss at Texas A&M University-Texarkana (25-9, 25-14, 25-5) Friday at the Patterson Student Center.

The Lady Wildcats conclude at 3-16. It's the first time they won't compete in the postseason since 2005. Fatima Ortega, who did not play tonight, completes her four-year career. She played in 55 matches, recording 174 digs, 15 service aces and five kills.

Wiley was overwhelmed on the attack - only putting down 12 kills. It made 25 attack errors with six the result of blocks by Texas A&M-Texarkana. The Lady Wildcats gave up 37 kills and only forced six errors.

Madisyn Moore led the team with five kills. She finished her freshman season with 74 kills and 20 blocks. Shyla Starks followed with four kills, giving her a team-high 131. Lynnetra Taylor tallied 11 assists and nine digs. She recorded an ace with Moore.

Head coach Obadiah Montgomery, who finished her first season, will spend the offseason evaluating the team and recruiting freshmen and transfers to strengthen the team and set it up for a better outcome in 2025.
