Volleyball faces Tougaloo College in HBCUAC Home Opener
Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) play comes to Alumni Gymnasium as Wiley University volleyball hosts Tougaloo College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The match was tabbed as the HBCUAC Game of the Week and will stream on the Urban Edge Network. It can be viewed online or downloaded to mobile devices via the app. Live statistics are also available and listed in the volleyball schedule on wileyathletics.com.
The Lady Wildcats (2-4, 1-1 HBCUAC) are coming off a three-set loss against Jarvis Christian University on Wednesday. They split their opening conference matches with a five-set victory at Southern University at New Orleans and a three-set loss at the defending HBCUAC postseason champion Dillard University.
Shyla Starks has led the Lady Wildcats' attack with 41 kills in the last four matches. She is averaging 2.92 kills per set and hitting .293 in her last three matches. Madison Herrera is averaging 5.21 assists per set in her last four matches.
Tougaloo (0-9, 0-2 HBCUAC) is searching for its first victory in 2025. It is on a 12-match losing streak dating back to October 30. The Lady Bulldogs visit Philander Smith University on Friday. Zoie Chambers leads the team with 67 kills and 21 blocks. Kamyah Love leads with a 2.55 kills per set. Taylor Cousar is the top setter with 89 assists, averaging 3.18 per set. Kaliyah Green follows with 78 and 2.60 per set. Cameron Gatlin is the top player on the back row with 86 digs and 2.87 per set.
Saturday's match will mark the seventh meeting against the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Wildcats had won four of the previous six meetings but lost both matches last season, which helped Tougaloo qualify for the 2024 HBCUAC Volleyball Championship.
