Wiley University appoints Three-Time Conference Champion Evans as Assistant Volleyball Coach
MARSHALL, Texas – Wiley University head coach Chinonye Onwuchekwa, DBA, is pleased to announce the addition of Nedu Evans to the Lady Wildcats coaching staff. A three-time conference champion with a proven track record of program transformation, Evans joins Wiley as an assistant coach following a standout collegiate career and six years of private coaching experience.
A Legacy of Championship Success
Evans brings a winning pedigree to the Lady Wildcats. During her tenure at Augusta University, she was a pivotal part of the rosters that secured the 2019 and 2020 Peach Belt Conference titles. Her dedication to the craft was recognized early on when she was named the program's Most Improved Player in 2019.
Most recently, Evans was a catalyst for change at Talladega College. She played a central role in elevating the program into a championship contender, culminating in a historic 2023 season. Evans earned All-Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) Second Team honors, recording 266 kills and 97 blocks while leading the Tornadoes to both the GCAC regular season and postseason titles.
Leadership and Vision
Beyond her playing career, Evans has spent the last six years as a private coach, specializing in elite player development. Her transition to the Wiley sidelines was facilitated by a recommendation from Coach Onwuchekwa's uncle, a professor at Miles College, who recognized Evans' unique leadership qualities.
"I genuinely appreciate her coaching style," said Coach Onwuchekwa. "I wanted to bring her to Wiley to help us achieve that championship ring. She has a winning mindset that is contagious."
Impact on the Future
Since arriving on campus, Evans has hit the ground running, spearheading training sessions for returning players and leading recruiting efforts for the 2027 class. For Evans, the move to Wiley represents a significant step in her professional evolution.
"Wiley University has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone," Evans said. "I believe this environment will challenge me to grow as a leader and expand my knowledge of the game."
As the Lady Wildcats push for their first postseason appearance since 2023, Evans is focused on the mental and physical preparation required for high-stakes volleyball.
"During the offseason, we've worked on gaining our confidence," Evans added. "We've made great progress, and I'm looking forward to seeing these ladies continue to grow in the fall."
Evans holds a Master's degree in Business Administration, bringing a disciplined, analytical approach to the Lady Wildcats' bench.
