Volleyball falls to Paul Quinn, Huston-Tillotson

Wiley University volleyball was unable to match the strong attacks of Paul Quinn College (25-18, 25-22, 25-18) and Huston-Tillotson University (25-14, 25-14, 25-21) in a pair of three-set losses on Friday at Alumni Gymnasium and Saturday at Mary E. Branch Gymnasium in Austin, Texas.
 
FRIDAY
The Lady Wildcats (3-6, 2-3 HBCUAC) were outscored 38-29 and outhit .189 to .036. They made 25 attack errors while Paul Quinn only made 17. Eight of Wiley's errors were the result of blocks by the Lady Tigers. It turned away three Paul Quinn attacks. Neither team was effective on the serve. Paul Quinn recorded one ace and made nine errors. The Lady Wildcats recorded two aces and eight errors.
 
Rachelle Santos led the Lady Wildcats' attack with 11 kills in 34 attempts. Shyla Starks followed with eight in 27 attempts. Madison Herrera recorded 27 assists, five digs and an ace. Marai Guinyard led the team with 16 digs, playing libero for the first time this season. She recorded the other ace. Nadia Cortez followed with 10 digs. Jae Jemmott led the block with two assists.
 
SATURDAY
Wiley traveled six hours to Huston-Tillotson University, 10 hours after they finished playing on Friday. It never led and was outhit .352 to .111 and outscored 43-25 in kills. The Lady Wildcats struggled against the Rams' front row as six of their attacks were blocked. Huston-Tillotson was also stronger on the serve with six aces and eight errors to three aces and 10 errors by the Lady Wildcats.
 
Starks led the team with seven kills and two aces. Leah Monsegue contributed 15 assists, three digs and an ace. Santos recorded a team-high nine digs. Kerrigan Biggs and Starks teamed up for a block.
 
The Lady Wildcats will visit Philander Smith University on Thursday.
